“Triumph of Love” a success

USM’s production of “Triumph of Love” received mention in the Portland Press Herald on March 10.  The cast of the show also appeared on WCSH-TV’s “207” on March 11.  “Triumph of Love” is directed by USM Associate Professor of Theatre Assunta Kent, with musical direction by USM Artist Faculty Ed Reichert.

Rear Admiral Leigher gets Maine coverage during his visit to USM

MPBN interviewed Admiral William E. Leigher on March 8 about how the Navy is responding to new threats that range from criminal hacking to foreign espionage.  Leigher was also interviewed by WMTW-TV Channel 8 (no link available) at the Corporate Partner’s breakfast on March 9.  He was the featured speaker at this event.  WCSH-TV Channel 6 interviewed Leigher on March 9 about his visit to USM and what he thinks of the students.

Dance Marathon at USM earns big money

The 14-hour STRIVE Dance Marathon at USM raised over $30,000, which will go toward helping disabled children and adults.  Read the March 7 Portland Press Herald to find out more about the event.

Picturing America course for teachers

Charles Colgan on economic opportunity provided by wind power

Muskie Professor Charles Colgan was quoted in a March 4 Lewiston Sun Journal article about wind power jobs.  Colgan reported that wind power in Maine has turned into a significant economic opportunity.  A report written by Colgan stated that wind power has created 240 jobs in Maine so far.  Another article about Colgan’s report and findings appeared in the March 7 Mainebiz.  Also check out a March 9 Kennebec Journal editorial by George Smith, who concurs with Colgan’s findings.

MEPRI study on public schools in Maine

Read about the results of the state commissioned study of public schools in Maine in the March 4 Bangor Daily News.  The research was done by the Maine Education Policy Research Institute, located at USM.  The Portland Press Herald also wrote an article about the studies findings on March 14.
