Lynn Poor Named USM’s Distinguished Emerging Staff Member

Lynn I. Poor of Lewiston was presented the University of Southern Maine Emerging Classified Staff Award by President Selma Botman at the annual Classified Staff Breakfast on March 22. This award is given annually to those with no more than five years of service to the university.

Poor, an administrative assistant in the Student Success Center at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College, was recognized for her knowledge of the university, her leadership and courtesy. She is described as the Center’s “go to person” and a “true team player.”

Poor came to USM LAC as a secretary in 2007, quickly receiving a promotion to administrative assistant the following year.  She also is a student in LAC’s Natural and Applied Science Program. A member of the Maine Council of Reflexologists, the Reflexology Association of America and the International Council of Reflexologists, she is working toward her Advanced Hand Certification.  At USM she currently is a member of the LAC Student Conduct Committee, the USM Academic Integrity board and the LAC Community Advisory Board. This is the third year she will be a delegate at the ACSUM Union Assembly.

Outside of USM, she volunteers for MPBN, Safe Voices (formerly Abused Women’s Advocacy Program) and the Maine Democratic Party. Poor was recently accepted into the 2011 Maine NEW Leadership Summer Institute, a residential program for college women in Orono co-sponsored by the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
