JOHN WISE, professor of toxicology and molecular epidemiology, HONG XIE, assistant research professor of applied medical sciences, and AMIE HOLMES, graduate assistant for Wise Environmental and Genetic Toxicology Laboratory, will be taking students to meet with collaborators and funders of the Society of Toxicology, and to participate in the Society’s annual meeting. Over February break, Wise took six students in the student Environmental Health and Toxicology club to Vieques, Puerto Rico where they worked with the local Vieques Conservation and Historical Trust to clean and clear brush from the Escuela Barbosa—a historic school in Vieques—as they work toward a marine field research site for USM.
BEN TOWNE, lecturer of exercise, health, and sport science, spent his February break in Lake Placid, N.Y., serving as an athletic trainer for the United States Bobsled and Skeleton teams. Towne was invited to help provide medical coverage for Olympic-level athletes competing in the 2012 World Championship of Bobsled and Skeleton, a two-week competition held in Lake Placid.
