MARK LAPPING, Muskie distinguished professor of public policy and management and Muskie executive director, and Muskie graduate students D. Robin Beck, Nikkilee Carleton, Hedda Steinhoff and Daniel Wallace, had their research article, “Maine’s Food System: An Overview and Assessment,” recently published in the Winter/Spring 2011 Special Food Issue of the Maine Policy Review.

David Owen presented draft article at University of California Law School

DAVID OWEN, associate professor of law, presented a draft article on the use of the public trust doctrine in environmental law at “The Public Trust Doctrine: Thirty Years Later” conference on March 4 at the University of California (Davis) School of Law.  Owen co-chaired the Maine Water Conference on March 16, where he also chaired a panel on urbanizing watersheds.

Jan Piribeck presents exhibit in Talsi, Latvia and Portland, Maine

JAN PIRIBECK, chair and associate professor of art, is presenting a dual exhibit of her work, “(EN)CODED LANDSCAPES: Walking Through Timespace,” in Talsi, Latvia and Portland, Maine.  The exhibit opened at the Talsi Regional Museum on August 24.  On September 25, it was moved to Mayo Street Arts in Portland and will remain there until October 26.

Martin Rogoff awarded Honorary Doctorate degree

MARTIN ROGOFF, professor of law, has been awarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa (Honorary Doctorate) from the Universite du Maine in Le Mans, France.  The degree will be awarded in the fall of 2011 in recognition of the work Rogoff has done with the Universite du Maine.

Sarah Schindler published article; presented paper at Georgetown University Law School

SARAH SCHINDLER, associate professor of law, had her policy article, “Encouraging Private Investment in Energy Efficiency,” published through the Center for Energy Efficiency and Environmental Law at the University of Connecticut.  The article is available online.  Schindler presented her draft article, “The Future of Abandoned Big Box Stores: Legal Solutions to the Legacies of Poor Planning Decisions,” on March 4 at the Association for Law, Property, and Society annual meeting at Georgetown University School of Law in Washington D.C.
