Kathleen Ashley presented paper in Tennessee; has her chapter published in book

KATHLEEN ASHLEY, professor of English, presented a paper entitled “Chivalric Performance in its Urban Bourgeois Context: The Pas d’Armes of the Fontaine des Plours, Chalon-sur-Saone, 1449-1450” at a conference on Performance at the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn.  Ashley also recently had her chapter, “Hugging the Saint: Improvising Ritual on the Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela,” published in the book “Push Me, Pull You: Physical and Spatial Interaction in Late Medieval and Renaissance Art” (Vol. 2), edited by Sarah Blick and Laura Gelfand (Leiden and Boston: Brill, 2011).

Paul Christiansen and Matthew Killmeier publish article

PAUL CHRISTIANSEN, associate professor of music, and MATTHEW KILLMEIER, associate professor of media studies, published an article entitled “Wolves at the Door:  Musical Persuasion in a 2004 Bush-Cheney Advertisement” in the electronic journal MedieKultur: Journal of Media and Communication Research (Vol. 27, No. 50).

Karen Croteau and George Towle publish article; Croteau presented research in Colorado

KAREN CROTEAU, professor of exercise, health and sport sciences, and GEORGE TOWLE, women’s cross country/track coach, had their article, “Pedometer-Determined Physical Activity of Western Kenyan Children,” published in the August 2011 issue of the Journal of Physical Activity and Health.  Viji Suresh, a graduate of USM’s Nurse Practitioner program, is a co-author.  Croteau also presented “Pedometer-Assessed Physical Activity and Health Status of Inpatient Nursing Staff” at the American College of Sports Medicine’s annual meeting this summer in Denver, Colo.

William Gayton and undergraduate student presented research poster in Washington D.C.

WILLIAM GAYTON, professor of psychology, and USM student CHRISTINE PEURA, bachelor of science in psychology, presented a research poster entitled “An Investigation of Gender and Age Effects on Self-Efficacy and Outcome Expectations of Positive Psychology Interventions” at the May 2011 meeting of the Association for Psychological Science in Washington D.C.

School Psychology student appointed to Maine Advisory Council on Education of Children with Disabilities

SUSAN JARMUZ-SMITH, doctoral student of school psychology, had her article, “Parent Involvement in Education,” published in a recent issue of Communiqué Online.  In August, Jarmuz-Smith presented a poster at the American Psychological Association Convention titled “Applying Functional Thinking to Parent Engagement and Participation in Education.”  She was recently appointed to the Maine Advisory Council on Education of Children with Disabilities by Maine’s Education Commissioner.
