On June 15, the Boston Globe, Maine Public Radio, The Portland Press Herald, and the Bangor Daily News all reported that Muskie alumna Amanda Rector named Maine’s new state economist.
Nursing study about fast food and high school obesity goes viral
A study conducted by USM School of Nursing researchers, published in July/August 2011 issue of the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior went viral. The study found that the proximity of fast food restaurants to schools have not impact on students’ weight. Media stories, that included interviews with Professor of Nursing David Harris appeared on MEDindia.net on June 13; in the June 15 EurekAlert!; on the June 16 CBS Atlanta website, on the June 16 medpageTODAY.com; on the June 19 MedINDIA.net website; on the June 20 DoctorsLounge.com; and in June 20 stories that aired on both Vermont Public Radio and Maine Public Radio.

Annie Finch’s poems adapted for stage
Read the June 8 Portland Phoenix to learn more about Stonecoast MFA Director Annie Finch’s “Wolf Song” poems that were adapted for the stage by a new Portland theatre troupe, Poets Theater of Maine. Finch collaborated with graduate student Erica Vega on the project and Associate Professor of Theatre Assunta Kent directed, while School of Music staffer Christenia Alden-Kinne composed the music.
