Mark Lapping to discuss his research on where Maine’s food comes from

Muskie Professor Mark Lapping will speak on “Understanding Maine’s Food System: Life at the End of the Pipeline,” from 2:30-4 p.m. on Friday, February 11 in the University Events Room of USM’s Glickman Family Library, Portland.  The public is welcome to attend this free presentation at which there will be a reception. USM students help out with Lemonade Day

USM business and marketing students lent a hand to Don and Kate Gooding, executive director of the Maine Center for Entrepreneurial Development and executive director of Lemonade Day Maine, respectively, as they set out to recruit kids to participate in the upcoming Lemonade Day event.  Read about it in the January 31 Forecaster.

New art on Portland campus

The January 30 Portland Press Herald covered the completion of a new mural, located in the Osher Map Library, titled “Locus” and painted by contemporary Maine artist Mark Wethli.  The mural is funded in part by Maine’s “Percent for Art” program.  It is the first of two pieces to be done for USM, the second being a wood sculpture for the Wishcamper Center.

Portland Police Department hold forum for gay community

The Portland Police Department held a forum on the University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus on January 27 where they addressed Portland’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community about creating an open-door policy of communication for reporting crimes and discussing safety concerns.  Read about the forum in the January 28 Portland Press Herald.
