Rose Marasco exhibits at Houston Center for Photography.

ROSE MARASCO, distinguished professor of art, had a solo exhibition, “Projections,” in the Houston Center for Photography.  The exhibit will be up from November 20, 2010 to January 9, 2011.  Marasco gave a talk about the exhibit on November 20.  View “Projections” and read about the exhibit on HCP’s website.

Charles Norchi presents in Washington DC; awarded research grant

CHARLES NORCHI, associate professor of law, presented “Sovereign and Maritime Claims in the East Asia Sea,” at the “History and Asia: Policy Insights and Legal Perspectives” conference on September 16-17 at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC.  Norchi was awarded a research grant by the Northeast Asian History Foundation to support publishing his presentation as a law review article.  Norchi lectured on “Afghanistan: Decline and Renewal” on September 28 at the World Affairs Council of Maine in Portland.  On October 15-16, Norchi presented “Appraising Dokdo: Collective Memory and Boundary Claims,” and chaired a panel about “Values and Leadership,” at the Annual Policy Sciences Institute at Yale Law School.  Norchi also spoke on “Customary Law and the Formal Legal System,” at the “Rule of Law in Afghanistan: Whose Law, Whose Authority?” conference held at Boston University on September 24-25.

USM School of Nursing Celebrates New Doctoral Program and Accreditation

The USM School of Nursing hosting a public reception to celebrate the recent approval of a new Doctorate of Nursing Practice program and its 10-year accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

The event will take place 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 27 in Rooms 109-110 of the Abromson Community Education Center, Portland.  All School of Nursing alumni, health care professionals and others interested in learning more about the DNP program are invited. (more…)

William Steele Directs “The Play About the Baby”

While Mad Horse Theatre Company’s production of Edward Albee’s “The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?” is being performed on the Main Stage,  the Company’s Dark Night Series returns with the perfect companion piece, Albee’s “The Play About the Baby.”

By turns funny, mysterious and disturbing, “The Play About the Baby” concerns a young couple who have just had a baby, and the strange turn of events that transpire when they are visited by an older man and woman. (more…)

Chris Northrop presents in Washington D.C.

CHRIS NORTHROP, associate clinical professor of law, presented “Holding the Juvenile Justice System Responsible to Youth of Color” at the Juvenile Defender Leadership Summit in Washington D.C .on October 16.  On September 15-17, Northrop served on the faculty for the Mississippi Youth Defender Conference, as well as helped develop the curriculum for the conference.

Martin Rogoff publishes articles in Italy

MARTIN ROGOFF, professor of law, had his Italian article, “L’approccio delle Corti statunitensi alla scelta della legge applicable,” published in the journal Diritto e Politiche dell’Unione Europea.  The article is about conflict of laws.  Rogoff’s Italian article about the 2008 U.S. presidential election, “Law presidenze Obama nel sistema constutionale statunitense: novita e riconferma,” will appear in a collection of essays, published by the journal Ressegna di diritto pubblico europeo.
