WMPG Hosts Benefit Show Featuring the “Humble Farmer”

At 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, WMPG, USM’s Community Radio Station, hosts the “Humble Farmer” for a benefit show at the St. Lawrence Arts Center, Portland.  Proceeds will go towards WMPG’s Power Up! signal improvement project. For more than 30 years Robert Skoglund, better known as the “Humble Farmer,” has been entertaining audiences with his trademark dry, sophisticated social commentary.  WMPG is proud to air his hour-long radio show from 2 – 3 p.m. each Tuesday.

Troy Williams (’10) subject of Mainebiz article

Recent USM graduate Troy Williams of York was the subject of a feature, “Hardly skating by,” in the June 14 edition of Mainebiz. Williams, who earned a degree in business administration and entrepreneurship, recently sold the skateboard business he founded when he was 13 (no link available).

The June 23 “Close to Home” section of the Portland Press Herald informed readers that Associate Professor of Sports Marketing Jo Williams, author of the children’s book, “Lilly the Lemon” did a book signing at General Store for Pets on June 26 as a benefit to Coastal Maine Great Dane Rescue (no link available).

Gorham Savings Bank Funds USM Presidential Scholarship

Gorham Savings Bank recently announced a donation of $20,000 to fund a USM Presidential Scholarship, as part of the University of Southern Maine’s Creating Maine’s Future Scholarship Campaign. USM Presidential Scholarships, the university’s most distinguished scholarship awards, provide Maine high school graduates $5,000 per year for four years. More than $800,000 has been raised to date.
