John Wise, principal investigator of USM’s Wise Environmental and Genetic Toxicology Laboratory returned to his Maine roots when he left Yale University, bringing his research lab to USM in 2002. He feels the opportunities at USM are unparalleled, stating, “USM provides exceptional education opportunities in bioscience. The faculty are from many of the top institutions in the U.S. and are personable and committed to student education and training.” Wise was so completely convinced that USM offers students a quality education that he encouraged his entire family to apply.

Wise, a resident of Cape Elizabeth, is the father of three college-age children, all of whom are currently attending USM. James, Johnny and Catherine went through the typical college search process, explained Wise. “My children visited, considered, and were accepted to many other institutions around the country,” he said. “They realized that the opportunities offered here were so exceptional that they decided USM was the school for them even if it did mean remaining close to home.”
