Hannaford Foundation Supports USM Athletics and Recreation Upgrade

Dave Bass, vice president for retail operations at Hannaford Supermarkets, presents a $250,000 gift from the Hannaford Charitable Foundation to USM President Selma Botman.

The Hannaford Charitable Foundation is supporting the improvement of athletic and recreational facilities at the University of Southern Maine through a lead gift of $250,000 for the conversion of a grass field into a lighted, synthetic field on USM’s Gorham campus.

Dave Bass, Hannaford Supermarkets vice president for retail operations, presented the gift to USM President Selma Botman during halftime ceremonies at a USM basketball game in the Warren G. Hill Gym in Gorham. The field, to be known as Hannaford Field, will open following completion of a $1 million fund-raising campaign.

USM School of Business Clears a Higher Bar

AACSB Accredited

“We have now cleared a higher bar,” said Business Dean James B. Shaffer in announcing that AACSB International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) has granted reaccreditation to the University of Southern Maine School of Business.

Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting. It’s also one of the most rigorous and prestigious, accrediting only five percent of schools of business, or 579 institutions across 35 countries.

Charles Colgan presents 2010 economic forecast

Muskie Professor Charles Colgan presented his annual “Breakfast with Charlie” Maine economic forecast for USM’s Corporate Partners on January 13.  His predictions for 2010 were carried on ABC News.com and Boston Globe on January 13, and in the January 14 issues of Mainebiz, istckanalyst.com, and the Portland Press Herald.

On January 15, the Kennebec Journal ran a story citing Colgan’s economic analysis of the past decade.
