Jessica Anthony’s novel receives allocades

JESSICA ANTHONY, lecturer in English, had her novel, “The Convalescent,” published by McSweeney’s Books in July 2009.  “The Convalescent” received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly, is a Barnes and Noble “Discover Great New Writers” selection, and an Editor’s Choice for the San Francisco Chronicle.  It is available for viewing on Amazon.com.

Psy.D. student Rebekah Bickford represents USM

REBEKAH BICKFORD, graduate student and graduate assistant, College of Education and Human Development, is representing USM’s Psy.D. in School Psychology program on the Board of the Maine Psychological Association.  Bickford was appointed by Maine’s First Lady Karen Baldacci, co-chair of Maine Children’s Growth Council, to the Working Group to Study the Connections Between Higher Education and Early Childhood Education.

Valerie Hart consults at hospital

VALERIE A. HART, associate professor nursing, was invited to consult with nursing staff at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway on November 4 and 18 on conducting “Difficult Patient Conversations,” which was based on her 2009 textbook, “Patient Provider Communications: Caring to Listen.”

Tim O’Dell records and performs

TIM O’DELL, artist faculty, School of Music, had his album of jazz compositions, “Dreams of Pangaea,” released in May 2009 (Southport Records: Chicago, Ill.).  This project was partially funded by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission. Jazz Times magazine reviewed the album in its October issue.  On August 3, O’Dell performed original jazz with bassist Tatsu Aoki in Chicago.  He also performed original music on November 1 in a quartet with musicians Matt Langley and Luther Gray in Dover, N.H.
