Constitution Day Lecture with Professor Melvyn Zarr

The University of Maine School of Law and USM will celebrate Constitution Day Thursday, September 17, with a lecture by Professor of Law Melvyn Zarr, “Thoughts about Interpreting our Constitution: Lessons from the Fourth Amendment.” The event will be held at 12:20 p.m. in the Moot Courtroom of the Law School Building, Deering Ave. Portland. It is free and open to the public.
Zarr began his career as a civil rights lawyer with the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, where he developed an expertise in helping his clients, including Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. He also conducted civil rights litigation in Mississippi and Alabama. He later served as co-director of the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, focusing on poverty law. In addition to maintaining a full teaching load, Zarr is an elected member of the American Law Institute.
Zarr was named the Law School’s 2003 Teacher of the Year for teaching excellence.
