Maine Author Hannah Holmes Reading at USM

The University of Southern Maine Bookstore is pleased to welcome back USM alumna Hannah Holmes (Class of 1988) to read from her most recent book, “The Well-Dressed Ape” (Random House, 2009). Holmes will read in USM’s Bookstore located in Woodbury Campus Center, Portland, at 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 28. The event is free and open to the public.

“The Well-Dressed Ape” is Holmes’ third and most personal book. The author of “The Secret Life of Dust” (Wiley, 2001) and “Suburban Safari” (Bloomsbury USA, 2006), looked at human beings through the lens of a biologist for this book, using herself as her study subject.

The Library Journal says of “The Well-Dressed Ape,” ” Highly recommended … With humor and clarity [Holmes] explores the facts, fictions, and hopes about the species homo sapiens.” Mark Norell of the American Museum of Natural History says “Hannah Holmes provides a fantastic synopsis of the human species. The best and the worst, the beautiful and the ugly — even the stinky.”

The University of Southern Maine (USM) offers its 10,000 plus students more than 115 areas of undergraduate and graduate study. USM’s location in southern Maine, a region cited as one of the most liveable in the country, offers a range of educational, cultural and recreational opportunities.
