College of Education and Human Development Inducts Seven Alumni on its Wall of Achievement

The USM College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) recently held a recognition and awards ceremony in which seven alumni were inducted on the Wall of Achievement in Room 301, Bailey Hall, Gorham.
The Bailey Hall Wall of Achievement recognizes CEHD alumni whose achievements and service have been honored by the various professional associations for their respective fields. Installed in one of the College’s multifunction rooms, the Wall of Achievement serves as inspiration to CEHD students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The Wall was inaugurated in 2006 with new installations added each year.
This year’s inductees are:
Nicholas D. Colucci Jr. ’63
Nicholas Colucci of Portland received his bachelor’s degree from Gorham State College in 1963, and his master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Connecticut in 1964 and 1969. After 40 years at the University of Southern Maine where he served as a professor in the Department of Teacher Education, Colucci retired with the honor of Associate Professor Emeritus of Teacher Education.
Marijane Fall ’86
Marijane Fall of Gorham received her bachelor’s degree from Nasson College in 1963, her master’s degree from the University of Southern Maine in 1986, and her doctorate from the University of Maine in 1991. After a distinguished 15-year career at the University of Southern Maine as a professor of human resource development, Fall retired with the honor of Professor Emerita from the University of Southern Maine.
Olivia Griset ’08
Olivia Griset of Bath received her Master’s degree in teaching and learning from the University of Southern Maine. While serving as a teacher at Lisbon High School, she was named Project Learning Tree National Outstanding Educator for ’08-’09 by Project Learning Tree.
Patrick Hartnett ’04
Patrick Hartnett of Hebron received his Master’s degree in educational leadership at the University of Southern Maine in 2004. While serving as principal of Leavitt Area High School in Turner, Maine, he was named the 2009 Maine High School Principal of the Year by the Maine Principals’ Association.
Brenda Harvey ’86
Brenda Harvey of Gardiner received her Master’s degree in counseling from the University of Southern Maine in 1986. In 2001, Brenda received the William Twarog Manager of the Year Award, the state’s highest management distinction, as well as a Governor’s Teamwork Award. She is the commissioner of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Maine’s largest state agency.
Gloria Noyes ’98
Gloria Noyes of Westbrook received her Master’s degree in literacy Education at the University of Southern Maine. While serving as a fifth grade classroom teacher at Congin School in Westbrook, Gloria was named Maine Teacher of the Year 2009 by the Maine Department of Education.
Brenda Thompson ’82, ’93
Brenda Thompson of Lisbon received her Master’s degree in counseling and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Counseling from the University of Southern Maine. While serving as a school counselor at P.W. Sugg Middle School in Lisbon, Maine, Brenda received the Janet Nesin-Reynolds Outstanding Middle Level Educator Award by the Maine Association for Middle Level Education.
