Ian Newton Speaks on “Population Limitation in Migratory Birds” at USM

On Tuesday, November 3, world-renowned bird expert and author Dr. Ian Newton will present “Population Limitation in Migratory Birds” on the 7th floor of USM’s Glickman Family Library, Portland.  The talk is co-hosted by BioDiversity Research Institute of Gorham, Maine, and the Biology Department of the University of Southern Maine.  The presentation will begin at 6 p.m. with a light reception at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Newton is an acclaimed ornithologist whose career has helped uncover many threats to birds and ecosystems including work that illuminated the impact of DDT to raptor populations. He is the author of  nearly 300 scientific papers and many books including: “The Sparrowhawk” (1986); “Population Limitation in Birds” (1998); “The Speciation and Biogeography of Birds” (2003); and “The Migration Ecology of Birds” (2008).
