October 7, 2009
Novelist Lesléa Newman will read from her new novel at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 29, in the Lee Auditorium, USM Wishcamper Center, Bedford Street, Portland. Newman will be at USM to promote her recently released novel “The Reluctant Daughter” which depicts the conflicts between a lesbian daughter and her ill mother. Newman’s reading is timely given the debate surrounding Question One in Maine’s next election. Newman is the author of more than 50 books, including the children’s book “Heather Has Two Mommies,” and the first board books for children with same sex parents: “Mommy, Mama, and Me,” and “Daddy, Papa, and Me.”
Newman’s reading is hosted by USM Bookstores and USM’s Center for Sexualities and Gender Diversity.
