Dr. Joyce Gibson, Dean of the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College (USM LAC) has announced the following faculty appointment. Dan Jenkins, Ph.D., has been hired as an Assistant Professor in the Leadership Studies program.
Professor Jenkins’s area of expertise is leadership education. He teaches courses primarily in leadership and organizational theory. Dr. Jenkins also brings extensive experience in student advising, research, statistics, and politics. He is actively involved in the International Leadership Association, Association of Leadership Educators, and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.
Originally from Tampa, Florida, Dr. Jenkins was the Program Coordinator and Co-Director of the Leadership Studies Academic Minor Program at the University of South Florida and an academic advisor for their Bachelor of Science in Applied Science, Hospitality Management, and Information Technology degree programs. During his time in Florida, Professor Jenkins was very active in state government, volunteering on gubernatorial, congressional, and school board campaigns, working as a policy analyst for the Florida House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations during the 2003 legislative session, and teaching courses on state and American government as well as political science at Hillsborough Community College.
“Dan has been identified within the International Leadership Association as an ‘up and comer,’”, says fellow Leadership Studies Professor Betty Robinson. “We fully expect him to open new doors for our students. We have actually been congratulated by several colleagues nationwide for successfully hiring him”.

Jenkins holds several awards and achievements, including being named a recipient of the 2012 Dedicated Support of Student Veterans Award from the University of South Florida.
