Microsoft Windows Security Warning – Remote Desktop
March 19, 2012
A vulnerability in Windows Remote Desktop was identified and fixed by Microsoft in their recent round of updates. There is there is also an exploit for the vulnerability making its way around the Internet as I write this.
If you have installed all Windows Updates, you should be safe from this. If not, please do so as soon as possible to protect yourself, your computer, and the University’s data.
To manually apply updates choose Start, All Programs, and then choose Windows Update. Alternatively, you could open Internet Explorer and visit https://www.update.microsoft.com/. Make sure you install all critical updates. After the process completes, run it again to ensure there are no further updates to be installed.
When delivered, your USM computer was configured to install critical updates automatically. You may find when following the procedure above, there are no updates to install. That’s good news, you have been safe all along.
