Power Outage: Saturday March 28, 2009

This weekend, Saturday March 28th 2009, Facilities will be performing work on the Portland campus power systems. This work will result in power outages to a number of buildings across the Portland campus. Your office and workstation is likely to lose power Saturday morning for several hours.

If you are already in the habit of turning off your equipment overnight and over the weekends, you should not notice anything out of the ordinary. You can benefit further by turning off any power strips or surge suppressors that all your workstation equipment is connected to.

If you are not in the habit of turning off your workstation, this would be an ideal time to join the power saving trend and save yourself a headache next Monday. Power fluctuations may possibly damage your workstation and often result in the loss of unsaved documents. We are always willing to help at the computing help desk, but would prefer you not have to call on Monday to recover a damaged workstation.

Please take the time this afternoon to check your office and turn off any other electronic equipment that does not require power over the weekend, including scanners, copiers, coffee makers, etc..

Facilities and Information and Technology (IT) have been working together to ensure that the University’s core file, print, email, and other data services are powered during this work. We expect you should be able to access services remotely but ask that you restrict activity to only what is necessary.
